Overview

 

The ideal candidate for LEED-AP would learn by being a member of a team on a LEED certification project. However, most AP candidates have little experience with LEED and wish to become accredited prior to working on a LEED project. LEEDstudy.com is focused on preparing candidates like you for the AP exam.

Areas of knowlendge tested by the exam:

• LEED SYSTEM
  In-depth familiarity with the LEED Rating System. (covered by LEEDstudy.com materials)
  
  
• PROJECT REGESTRATION
  Understanding of LEED project registration, technical support, and certification process. (online at www.USGBC.org)
  
  
• PROJECT DOCUMENTATION
  Knowledge of LEED documentation and submittal requirements and processes. (online at www.USGBC.org)
  
  
• DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION PROCESS
  Demonstrated knowledge of design and construction industry standards and processes.
  
  
• STANDARDS
  General understanding of standards referenced in the Rating System and to which credits they apply. (covered by LEEDstudy.com materials)
  
  
• SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
  Comprehensive fundimental knowledge of sustainable design stratediges and practices, including integration, application within the LEED Rating System, and role in creating high-performace green buildings. (covered by LEEDstudy.com materials)
  
  
• GREEN BUILDING RESOURCES
  Familiarity with key green building and sustainable design resources and tools. (partially covered by LEEDstudy.com materials)

At the present time LEEDstudy.com's products cover some but not all of these areas. We suggest supplimenting your study library with additional information.

 

Study Strategies
The exam test your skills of memorization. In order to remember all the material, use study guides, flash cards, practice exams.

When reviewing the credit system using the official reference guide or a study guide based on it, first, be sure to concpetually understand the intent for each prerequisite and credit so you can know how to apply them to sample projects. Secondly, be sure to understand the requirements for each prerequisite and credit Know the various required percentages, thresholds, baselines and options when applicable.

One common mistake by exam takers is not studying the referenced standards. Use study guides (such as LEEDstudy.com's Guide to Referenced Standards and Definitions or the Colorado Chapter Study Guide) to help you memorize which standards apply to each credit. You do not need to memorize the text of the individual standards however, just the application.

The USGBC website is a huge part of the way LEED works. Its critical to know how to use it and what it does for LEED projects. The following areas are suggested areas of study: (LEED Resources)
